Description

We took this super ADORABLE Sparrows by Pen and Paper pattern and paired it with Riley Blake BEE BASICS by Lori Holt!

The Sparrows Quilt Pattern (65 1/2" x 71") is a traditionally pieced, block-based pattern. All the initial cutting is done for you to follow the pattern instructions as written, so you will do some trimming of half-square triangles after sewing. You can skip all the initial cutting instructions!

Finished size: 65 1/2″ x 71″

Skill Level: Confident Beginner

It came just as described. I had never used Bee Basics before and while it is a sturdy feeling fabric, it has been really thready and unravelly to work with. But it is high quality and strong colors anyway. It has been the first quilt kit of yours I have worked with. I have finished blocks but not the top yet. I made a mistake so may need to go back and fix (re-orient part of the bird block bottom that I did not do correctly).

This is the first time I have used a pre cut kit. The fabric pieces came packaged in groups marked by stickers with the size of the pieces, and the step in the directions that they would be assembled in, and the letter that identified them in a pattern layout. I figured this out only after reading through the directions several times. It’s possible that if I had previous experience with precut kits it would not be so difficult. Overall, the directions were very helpful and the inclusion of cutting directions for making another quilt in different colors was a bonus. Also included were some extra pieces of fabric that I assume would be helpful if mistakes are made. I find myself thinking of this somewhat like a jigsaw puzzle, looking at the finished picture to see how it’s supposed to look to figure out the next step. I might buy another kit if I love the pattern and the price was right.

I love this quilt and the colors that are in the pre cut kit. However, the fabric is fraying a lot which is disappointing. I’m only about a 1/3 of the way through making the quilt. The directions are easy to follow and it will look great. Just unhappy about the fraying fabric.

I love the look of the pattern but very disappointed that the colors I received were not as represented. I expected the colors to reflect the colors shown in the picture. Instead of a red, I received a blue plaid that didn't work for me and looked sloppy as it was practically impossible to match the pattern. Luckily I had a red fabric in my stash that I substituted.
